PALM BEACH HIGH SCHOOL
Class of 1953

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of the following classmates.

08/19/2009

We just received word of the passing of one of our classmates.
Dorothy Dickau Walther passed away August 19, 2009.

Dorothy Gertrude Dickau Walther

Family-Placed Obituary
DOROTHY GERTRUDE DICKAU WALTHER Age 73, of Wellington, FL passed into life eternal on
August 19, 2009 after an extended illness. Dorothy was born in Middletown, CT on January
11, 1936, only child to Fred and Gertrude Dickau. In 1945,
her
family moved to the city of West Palm Beach, FL where she attended Northboro Elementary
and the school on the hill known as Palm Beach High, graduating in 1953. She became
an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1945, at which time started
her love of singing. Dorothy sang soprano in the choir for over 50 years as well as in
nursing homes every week for 20 years, before retiring her choir robe. She met her
late husband, Larry Walther at First Lutheran and married in 1957. Dorothy
worked for King & Fisher until 1960. Her life interests were spending time with her family,
attending every one of her grandson's ball games from pee-wee leagues through
high school, trying out a new recipe, talking on the phone with friends, shopping
because there was always a sale somewhere, sitting on the back porch watching horses graze
in her back yard, and playing Canasta with the girls. No one will meet a kinder, more
loving, gentle, unselfish, honest and faithful woman than my mom, who always had
a smile and kind word to anyone she met. She believed in heaven and earthly angels,
that there was goodness in everyone, there was a reason for everything, be patient and
trust in God, and that everyone should treat others the way they want to be
treated. Her request is that she wears her Choir robe when she enters heaven,
so she'll be prepared for her first rehearsal in the angelic choir that awaits her.
She leaves behind her only child, Diane Walther Guerrero, whom was her entire life;
son-in-law, Alan Guerrero, whom she loved and treated like a son; grandsons, Matthew
and Daniel Guerrero whom she embraced with pride and joy; her cousin, Evelyn Balfe
whom she loved like a sister; dearest cousin Eddie Groh; and numerous friends who
loved and adored her. If my mother ever touched your heart in some way, please honor her
memory by sharing an extra smile and kind word today. Special thanks to Vitas Hospice:
Merle, Corrine, Chaplin Denise, Ivy and the many amazing people who took such wonderful
care of my mom. Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2009,
at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL HOME, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach. Friends may
visit with the family from 4:00 PM until service time on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers,
please consider a donation to one of the following: Vitas Hospice, the American Diabetes
Association of the Palm Beaches or First Evangelical Lutheran Church in West

Ode To Russell Kartrude ..... By Richard Burrer

To all that knew this man,
They know he was a gentleman.
He followed his dream of flying,
And to the Air Force he went applying.
They found him so fit,
So off to flight school he flit.
With school well done,
His thoughts turned to fun.
Cooling off in the “O” Club one day,
Was where he met his Faye.
Then joined in union by God’s will,
Two daughters arrived as a blessed thrill.
Then a place called Vietnam beckoned,
So belonged there he reckoned.
Flying into death’s parlor by day,
And did his duty as may.
With his tour so honorably done,
He happily returned to his loved one.
Then the skies again beckoned,
So time to fly Russ reckoned.
With that journey complete,
Still again the sky was his retreat.
So with a plane called Pitts,
It soon played with his wits.
Now with lifes cycle at hand,
He’s ready to visit the Promised Land.
So go now mighty one,
To be with our great Father and Son
Tears will flow into streams,
but you will always be in our dreams.

A Prayer for Russ, submitted by Jack Dobrow.

All of your friends are praying for you.
May the power of God be with you too !
Any of your friends will reach out at full length
to help you when you need our love and strength.
May the Almighty power always be there
beside you to give you continuous care.
We are praying that God will help us
ease the pains of our thoughtful friend Russ.
Russ cares about his friends all the while
that he has overcome suffering with still a smile.
So now we will all pray that God will stay
with Russ and bless him with love every day.
Yes, Russ, because you have always been so kind,
we will have a prayer for you in mind.
We will be ready and glad to help you through.
All of your friends are praying for you !
Alas, God has come to the rescue again.
Now you are in Heaven forever, Amen.
